Despite the usual summer drop-off in users, the BBC has seen record traffic figures on the radio section of iPlayer, reaching 77m requests in July, including 9m from mobile and 3m more on tablet.

The amount of mobile and tablet use has tripled from July 2012 to 2013, causing desktop’s share of requests to fall by 10 per cent, giving mobile devices a 16 per cent share.

June and July saw a record share of TV requests from mobile – 38 per cent – which has grown from 21 per cent in July 2012. The share of TV traffic from desktop has dropped from 54 per cent to 36 per cent in a year.

Total user requests across TV and radio have grown by 67m since July last year, with mobile and tablet growth of 44m during this time.
