Our good friends at Macy’s are always surprising us with their understanding of what works when it comes to mobile marketing. Macy’s has done some pretty cool stuff when it comes to mobile marketing, whether it’s encouraging their customers to download their mobile app by texting “APP” to 62297, or even running an in-store text-to-win contest, for a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree with Caprice Willard, one of the buyers for Macy’s. Now Macy’s is starting to give SMS subscribers the option to save the coupons they receive via text message, to their Passbook application.

You can see in the Macy’s text message below, where they’re linking to the mobile coupon, by using a bit.ly link, which is a URL shortning/analytics provider.

When the Macy’s customer clicks on the link in the text message, they’re taken to a mobile coupon, which you can see below. While Macy’s offers a bunch of different ways to share the mobile coupon, it’s awesome that they’re now allowing customers to add the mobile coupon to their Passbook. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Below you’ll see what happens when a customer clicks “Add to Passbook”, where the application asks if you’d like to “Add” the mobile coupon. Once it’s added, customers can easily find that coupon within their Passbook app.

What a great example of the combination between text message marketing, mobile couponing, and the Passbook application. Keep up the good work Macy’s!
