65.8 per cent of the UK’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) currently lack a mobile presence, according to a study commissioned by AppsBuilder.
With 4.9m SMEs in the country, AppsBuilder estimates this means potential lost revenues of £52.6bn for non-optimised businesses in the next 12 months.
The survey of 500 SMEs also found that only 18.4 per cent intend to adopt a mobile presence in the next year. A lack of technical knowledge was identified as the main obstacle to going mobile (cited by 46 per cent of companies), followed by the perceived cost of development (36 per cent) and not being sure of the overall business benefits of a mobile presence (35 per cent).
Of those SMEs who have implemented a mobile strategy, 44 per cent spent less than £10,000, 55 per cent spent between £10-100,000 and a mere one per cent spent over £100,000.
