Woman high street on phoneSeven countries now boast wireless broadband penetration over 100 per cent, with more mobile data accounts than people, a report has found.

The report, by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), found that Finland, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Korea and the United States all reported penetration above 100 per cent, with Finland topping the chart with almost 125 per cent.

Across the 34 countries covered by the OECD, penetration averages 72.4 per cent, up 14.6 per cent from last year, and representing a total of 910m subscriptions. There were dips in coverage in two countries, Italy and Luxembourg, where penetration dropped by 0.2 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively.

Fixed wired broadband connections reached 339m as of December 2013, making an average penetration of 27 per cent, or just over one connection per four people, with families and households tending to share connections.
